BIPOC Cancer Support Organizations

I'm heartened to find so many organizations that focus resources, supports, and personalized attention to women of color experiencing breast cancer. Were there this many twenty years ago when I looked for resources about my own breast cancer diagnosis? (For context see the post 20 Years Ago Today I Was Diagnosed with Breast Cancer: A Racial Privilege Retrospective.) I'm guessing not. But then, I couldn’t see what I wasn’t looking for.

Here's just a few:

  • Sister's Network: committed to increasing local and national attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has in the African American community

  • African American Breast Cancer Alliance: Educating and supporting Black Americans in their journeys with breast cancer and survivorship

  • Sisters By Choice: Reducing the incidents and severity of breast cancer through awareness, education and early detection for underserved and uninsured men and women

  • The Breast of Us: Empowering women of color affected by breast cancer to make the rest of their lives the best of their lives through education, advocacy and community
