Martha Hurwitz

Business Coaching with an Anti-Racist Focus
I could not have launched my new business this year at age 60 without Martha's inquisitive and thoughtful guidance. The inquiry and planning we engaged in together created the foundation for the success that I'm enjoying today.

In Clients' Words

Martha and I began with a complete reorganization of systems: financial, administrative, record keeping, forms development and website creation. She helped rid me of two alluring but bad business ideas and helped me with version control (every writer’s bugaboo).

Now that we’ve put the infrastructure systems in place we have time for marketing and workshop development — over tea. I look forward to seeing her every time!

Laurie Riepe, Therapist & Writer
When I contacted Martha my subject line read 'HELP' and that is exactly what she did — with integrity and deep listening skills. She was able to see more clearly than I what I actually needed to get my business up and running to its maximum potential.

Meredith Bailey, Editor & Writer
Martha is one of those rare professionals who feels like one of your good friends. It takes a lot of skill to be casual & comfortable while also having the right amount of pushy and directive. She has a Mary Poppins bag of tricks and a contagious way of tackling problems. But she also isn't afraid to say she needs to recommend someone more skilled than herself.

Each time Martha arrives at my office I present her with another of those dilemmas that comes with running your own business. She coaches me without judgment to a resolution each time.

Stacia Valley, Body Awakening
Martha is fabulous to work with in every dimension. She's patient and energetic while asking the right questions. She's collaborative while at the same time keeping me moving forward in the process. As a borderline technophobe, I found Martha incredibly helpful in walking me through the electronic logistics of what I hoped to accomplish. I love the results and and am grateful for her help.

Carol Odell, Therapist
I was doing too many things at once and going crazy, as many self-employed people do. Martha turned my business (and life) from a scattered 15-ring circus to juggling just a few plates at once — much more doable! She helped me set up a work/life infrastructure that matches the way my brain works. Now I feel nourished by my business instead of constantly panicked about it.

Services

Well-conceived visions often come without road maps.
Together, we'll hone where you're headed and build the path to get there.

Manage the Transition

Whether your transition calls for a sudden jump or a slow build, we'll start with a thorough look at where you want to go and what needs to happen between here and there. Then we'll pool skills, resources and creativity to plot out a course that centers around priorities and minimizes overwhelm.

Create System Ease

We'll seek out the systems that make you cringe - from filing to passwords, device synching to expense tracking - and replace them with ease, flow and efficiency. With the back of an envelope or the latest app, we'll build an infrastructure of organized systems that works for you.

Personalize the Path

By leveraging your enthusiasms, exploring your hesitancies and sitting with your resistances, we'll invite your more human aspects to influence the path to your goal. Hand-holding, back-patting, confidence-fluffing and sound-boarding are key services in the mix.

Session Options

Short-Term

A quick alignment of uncoordinated devices, a new newsletter template design, the shirking of nostalgia to clean out boxes and files; these can be accomplished in a short engagement that keeps the focus on relatively brief organizational, technical or training fixes.

About Martha

Martha is an educator by training, with professional experiences spanning the inner life and out-of-doors, both intellectual content and physical skills, with individuals & groups of hundreds. Not one for travelling known routes, Martha's career has included teaching qigong to people with cancer, providing writing & workshop design for child welfare reform efforts and leading mountaineering courses for groups ranging from youth-at-risk to executives.

An enduring interest in relationships of power has informed Martha's studies, career choices and persistent questions. She has studied the psychology of secrecy, co-founded an off-the-charts democratic school and doggedly pursues personal and societal accountability in the terrain of whiteness, anti-racism and racial equity.

This winding route is the inspiration for Mountain Way: finding paths through obstacles, making & tossing plans, paying attention to what's presented, proceeding as the landscape calls for.
